According to the Associated Press, Roberta Flack died at home surrounded by her family. She was 88 and had been battling ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease).1
Younger fans would know her song “Killing Me Softly With His Song” which was covered by The Fugees in 1996. Flack’s version was released in 1972 and reached #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1973.2
Born in North Carolina and raised in Virginia, Ms. Flack would go on to have several #1 songs in the 70s, including duets “The Closer I Get To You” and “Where Is The Love” with the late Donny Hathaway.3
Flack’s music has been on regular rotation on our Live365 internet radio station “Chillin’ With Steve”.
Our prayers are with Ms. Flack’s family and we thank her for sharing her talent with the world. She has earned her place on that celestial stage in Music Heaven with Mr. Hathaway and may she rest in His eternal peace.
